Our Name

18 Squared gets its name according to the system of gematria and the letter of “Chai” (meaning living or life) which add up to 18. We believe 18 Squared is company whose ethos is living life with exponential potential.

Mark S. Germain, CFP™, MBA, ADPA®

Managing Member

Mark Germain Founder and CEO is a serial entrepreneur and has created or aided others in creating quality business opportunities, and offered lasting financial counsel for over the last 50 years. He is the founder and managing member of 18 Squared Tactical Fund, a U.S. based private equity real estate fund, investing in multifamily, opportunity zone, and commercial properties.

Mark holds a BS in Economics and Accounting from Southern Connecticut State University and a MBA from Northeastern University and his formal training were instrumental in his success first as a consultant for Touche Ross (now Deloitte and Touche). Then, as a CFO for a start up software company and as the CEO for a Wealth Management firm for over 25 years.

As a wealth advisor and Chief Investment Officer, he has focused on alternative non-correlated assets to enhance and stabilize returns for his clients.
Formal training and experience with professionals in the industry has allowed him to invest either as a General or Limited partner in more than 6,000 housing units throughout the country. He is the General Partner for 18 Squared Tactical fund since 2011, and formed 18 Squared Qualified Opportunity Zone funds one and two .

He believes working with strong developers and partners leverages the expertise of each professional to meet or beat performance expectations. Mark splits his time between Palm Beach Gardens FL and Yardley, PA with his fiancée. He has three children and four grandchildren and when not in the office you can find him on the golf course .

Christopher Cacchiola, CIMA®, CRPC®, CPWA®

Christopher Cacchiola has over 10 years of real estate and investing experience, property management, and contract negotiations. He combines real estate investment expertise with strategic positioning in tax, retirement, insurance, and estate planning. Cacchiola’s focus is on navigating the complexities of today’s dynamic markets and identifying investment opportunities that achieve strategic and operational goals.

Cacchiola is finishing his Masters in Tax at University of Cincinnati. Additionally, Cacchiola has earned his Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA®), Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor (CRPC®) and Certified Private Wealth Advisor (CPWA®) designations. Cacchiola earned a BS in Finance from Kean University and holds a Series 65 License.

Y. Dogan Sahin, CFA

Director of Operations and Analytics

Dogan Sahin has 17 years of investment industry experience including modeling and valuation analysis, portfolio management and investment. Prior to joining 18 Squared, Sahin independently managed public equity and derivative portfolios. He also served as research analyst and co-portfolio manager of the Franklin Small Cap Value fund during his 11-year tenure with Franklin Templeton Investments. Throughout his career, Sahin’s focus has been on creating and maintaining systems that streamline and automate all phases of the investment process.

Sahin received a BA in Chemistry and Biology from Carleton College and a MA in Molecular and Cell Biology from the University of California, Berkeley. He is a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the American Chemical Society (ACS), and is a CFA charterholder.

Sharon LaRoux, CPA

Controller and Director of Finance

As controller, Sharon La Roux oversees the accounting functions for 18 Squared GP, including financial reporting and routine compliance filings.

Prior to joining 18 Squared, Sharon served as Assistant Controller for Premier Management Associates, in Englewood Cliffs, NJ for 5 years. At PMA she was responsible for accounting, audit, budgeting, and financial reporting. She was previously a sales agent with Weichert Realtors in Bergen County, New Jersey for many years while raising her two sons. In addition, continuing to have a small successful tax practice and working part time for local CPA firms.

Ms. La Roux holds a B.S. in accounting from Kent State University and is a licensed Certified Public Accountant and holds a Real Estate license in New Jersey.
